Marvel Avengers: Infinity War D23

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one large puzzle. Every movie or show that appears within the MCU is just another piece to a much great entity. With the recent release of Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2., that puzzle grew just a little more. Now the universe has a total of 15 films, dating back to 2008.

A major part of this giant world is the presence of the Infinity Stones. These are cosmic gems that are being hunted by Thanos, who we first met at the end of The Avengers. Each one of these stones has their own unique powers, and when brought together in the Infinity Gauntlet, they make their wielder the most powerful being in the universe.

In total, there are six of these stones. We have come across five of the six to this point in the MCU. The Space Stone (blue) is being held on Asgard. We have the Power Stone on Xandar (purple). The Mind Stone (yellow) is in Vision’s forehead. Last we saw the Reality Stone (red) it was in the possession of The Collector. Finally, the Time Stone (green) is in the hands ofSorcererceror Supreme, Doctor Strange.

That leaves us with the Soul Stone. Based on images seen in other films, it is a safe bet to say that this stone is going to be orange in color. But the question remains, where is it?

There are two more Marvel films left in 2017. Those are Spider-Man: Homecoming Thor: Ragnarok, which come out on July 7th, 2017 and November 3rd, 2017 respectively. We will then be treated to Black Panther on February 16th, 2018 before we reach a film in which those stones and Thanos will become a focal point. That film is, of course, Avengers: Infinity War, which comes out May 4th, 2018.

Now there is no guarantee that the stone will show up until that actual film. However, the popular theory is that it will pop up in Thor’s next adventure. That is because about 80 percent (not an actual statistic, but simply a guess based on conversations I’ve had) of Marvel fans are of the belief that Heimdall will be in possession of the stone.

While that theory does make sense, and I have been a firm believer, fans cannot be blinded by one theory. If it is not the case, that means it will come from an unexpected source. So we are here to identify one of those possible locations, in case Heimdall does not have the cosmic stone.

So I ask this question Marvel fans: Could The Sovereign be in possession of the Soul Stone?

For starters, as we mentioned above, the stone is a virtual lock to be orange. Given the golden nature of Ayesha and her people, an orange stone would blend in quite nicely. So right off the bat, this idea struck me as possible.

Then we factor in arguably the most important of the five credit scenes that happened at the end of Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2. If you have not seen the film, I will issue the SPOILER warning now. As everything from here on out will contain spoilers for Marvel’s newest movie.

In the middle scene, we see a down on her luck Ayesha. But she then turned her attention to a new project. That project is a giant cocoon looking thing, that she will call “Adam”. This is clearly a nod to Adam Warlock.

Why is this important you may ask? Well, in the comics, Adam uses the Soul Stone in a way similar to how Vision uses the Mind Stone currently in the MCU. He is also a key player in the Infinity Gauntlet storyline and taking down Thanos.

Now, as things stand now, several of Marvel’s top execs are stating that Adam will not be appearing in Infinity War. Now this could simply be misdirection, but for the time being, let’s assume it is true.

So how could The Sovereign have the Soul Stone if Adam Warlock is not going to be in the next Avengers film? Well, for starters, we have been given the idea that he will be appearing in the next Guardians film. As things stand right now, that movie will likely come out in roughly 2020, which will be after the next two Avengers flicks.

However, in terms of timeline, Guardians three would most likely take place before that. The most recent installment in the franchise was set only a few months following the second one. So, even though it aired in theaters in 2017, it actually was 2014 on the screen. Since the Guardians trilogy is meant to tell a finite story of the group of heroes we all love, the third film is likely to follow that pattern.

Maybe that means Ayesha currently, in 2014, possessed the Soul Stone. She will then use it to wake up Adam and bring him to life. Adam will then play a key role in the third Guardians film, mainly as a baddie. However, he will eventually turn on Ayesha, joining the Guardians.

Then sometime between 2014 and Infinity War, Adam crosses paths with Thanos. Thanos comes out victorious, leaving Adam in a very weakened state. This would mean Thanos could actually have the stone by the time we see him in Infinity War. If Marvel chooses, they could actually introduce Adam in a credit scene in which Thanos takes the stone from him.

We could then go the entire third Avengers movie without actually seeing Adam, keeping true to what Kevin Feige said. But then he could make his triumphant return come the fourth Avengers film. Adam would then play a crucial part in taking down the Mad Titan in that film, much like he did in the comics.

Given these factors, I am not ready to rule out The Sovereign having possession of the Soul Stone right now in the MCU.

What do you think? Who do you think has the stone? Is it Heimdall? The Sovereign? Thanos himself? Or maybe someone else entirely? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
