Former Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey traded in the warm weather in South Florida for the sunny rays in California as it was announced he signed a deal with Los Angeles Chargers. Pouncey was released from the Dolphins last week.

Per Chris Wesseling of NFL.com, The Bolts have agreed to terms with former Dolphins star Mike Pouncey on a two-year contract, the team announced Monday. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports Pouncey’s pact is worth $15 million.

Los Angeles was Pouncey’s lone free-agent visit since gaining his release from Miami last Thursday. His signing fills one of the few areas of need on a relatively loaded Chargers roster.

A beefed up offensive line will help the Los Angeles Chargers’ running game and protect Philip Rivers, who had the lowest sack total of his career last season. As Wesseling points out, the majority of the reason for the low sack total was more about the veteran quarterback making pre-snap adjustments and uncanny ability to beat the blitz. The blocking woes were more noticeable in the stunted ground attack, which struggled to gain consistency throughout the 2017 season.

Having a Pro Bowl performer at the pivot can only make the Chargers offensive line better.

The 28-year-old veteran was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the first round with the 15th pick overall, and started all sixteen regular season games of his rookie season. He is a three-time Pro Bowl selection (2013–2015) and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team (2011).

As a collegiate at the University of Florida, he was a two-time First-team All-American (2009, 2010) and a First-team All-SEC (2009). Pouncey was part of the Gators’ BCS national champion (2009) and was part of the SEC championship team in 2008.

The Chargers can feel better about their interior offensive line now with the guard tandem of Forrest Lamp and Dan Feeney. The Los Angeles Chargers have few holes to fill on offense. The offensive line wsa the team’s one glaring weakness.
