Martin Truex Jr wins his 2nd MEC race at Kansas Motor Speedway

Saturday night NASCAR was under the lights at Kansas Speedway for The Go Bowling 400. Ryan Blaney started on the pole and looked dominant most of the night. However, it was Martin Truex Jr who was on a mission after nearly winning at this track last spring. Truex Jr was able to hold off Blaney and Kevin Harvick during the restart for the green white checkered. This is Truex Jr’s second win of the season, the first being at Las Vegas Speedway.

On lap 197 Joey Logano and Danica Patrick hit the wall hard on turn one as Logano lost his right front brake but it was Petty Motorsports Driver Aric Almirola who was also caught up in the wreck that silenced the crowd. Rescue crews had to evacuate Almirola from the windshield with a neck brace and back board. He was immediately taken to a local hospital. Petty Motorsports released a statement Sunday am stating that Almirola is suffering from a Compression Fracture on vertebrae T5. He was released from the hospital and will follow-up with his Dr in Charlotte. No word on next week’s race and/or if a replacement driver will be used.
