CLEVELAND – Despite being the center of a potential blockbuster trade, the Cleveland Cavaliers signed swingman Andrew Wiggins to a four-year rookie deal worth a reported $25 million.

Despite signing—and being unable to be traded fro 30 days—Wiggins could be part of a possible trade that would include Minnesota Timberwolves power forward, Kevin Love.

The deal will earn the former top overall pick $5.5 million in his first season and give the Cavaliers have the ability to control Wiggins’ rights through the 2018-19 season with a player option to opt out in the last two years of the deal.  Under the leagues’ collective bargaining agreement, all rookie contracts are limited to four years, setting their value based on draft positions.

Wiggins, who averaged 17.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.0 blocks in 35 games for the Jayhawks, averaged 15.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks in four Summer League games for Cleveland.

It is not guaranteed that Wiggins is staying in Cleveland after August 22, but at this point and time, there will a lot of anxiety in both Cleveland and Minneapolis. The only question that remains to be answered is will he stay or will he go?
