The Los Angeles Lakers are still in the early days of Magic Johnson being the team president and there is a lot of changes coming to the second most valuable team, according to Forbes. It seems that Magic Johnson and the Lakers front office staff are working out ways for the team to buyout the remainder of veteran guard Jose Calderon’s contract.

In his first year in Los Angeles, Jose Calderon has flopped mightily. He has averaged 3.3 points in the eleven games that he started. In his eleven-year NBA career that has had stints with the New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons, and Dallas Mavericks, this is the lowest points per game that he has averaged. While his run with the Knicks wasn’t great, he averaged close to double what he’s averaging in Los Angeles. Calderon is in the last year of his four-year deal and will be owed $7.7 million for this season if the Lakers buy him out.

Now, with all that being said, what would the future for Calderon be if Johnson and the Lakers front office buy him out? According to Marc Stein of ESPN, he is hearing that the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets have emerged as suitors for the guard if he’s able to get his release by the Lakers. While his numbers have been in decline for the last few years maybe due to age, Calderon can help the bench of whatever team that signs him.
