It seems there may be even more basketball coming in 2017. It is being reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo that longtime NBA guard Roger Mason will be leaving his position as the executive director of the National Basketball Association to assist in launching a new professional league for retired players. It is being reported also that Mason will end up serving as president and commissioner of this new league.

It should be also noted that Mason will be a partner in this league with rapper and actor Ice Cube and others. This league is set to launch in June of 2017. Apparently, the plan for this league is to consist of eight teams that are made up of five players that will tour together across the United States for roughly ten weeks in the summer. They would end up playing three-on-three and half court games. The league will be known as TheBig 3, which was founded by Ice Cube. He recently sat down with Adrian Wojnarowski and spoke about the project, “ I thought of the concept as a fan who got sick of seeing his heroes retire and not play anymore. He would go on to say that, “ A lot of these guys can still play once they retire from the NBA, just not back-to-back or four games in five nights.”

It is still early in the process, however, there happen to be several former NBA players who have committed. They happen to be Kenyon Martin, Stephen Jackson, Jermaine O’Neal, Rashard Lewis, and Jason Williams. It’s also now being mentioned that Gary Payton has agreed to coach one of these teams. Also, it should be noted that an official announcement for this new league is set for January of 2017.

This is just a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt
