According to NBA Trade Rumors, the Indiana Pacers may be looking to make a trade to either bolster their roster or to break it down. There are reports that the Pacers could be in the market to trade Paul George but there may not be a need to if they can find a suitable second scorer.
The Pacers figured that Monta Ellis could fill that void but his inconsistency has left him with a 11 point per game average in 27 minutes. The Pacers are 12th in the NBA in scoring but a large part of that come from their frontcourt. New addition, Jeff Teague has done a great job directing the team but with no backcourt help, he’s left to do more than his skills are capable of.
The Pacers are not out of the playoff hunt by any means and George as earned the right to be mentioned with the top players so, moving him would be like the Sacramento Kings trading DeMarcus Cousins. Plain stupid.
A move the Pacers could make is to look into trading Monta Ellis for a better scoring option to pair with Teague and George like Brandon Knight of the Phoenix Suns. Ellis is not a starter anymore and yet the Pacers continue to trot him on the floor as if he’s still the player he was with the Golden State Warriors before Stephen Curry and Klay Thomspon made him expendable.
If Knight were to make it to Indiana that would give the Pacers an explosive lineup. Knight and Teague may be small in terms of backcourt standards but both possess a heart the size of a lion. Knight is still productive for the Suns despite being placed on the bench due to the emergence of Devin Booker. In 54 games, Knight has averaged 11 points but manages to hoist up 10 shot attempts in 21 minutes. He’s young (25) and has a tremendous upside. Last season as a starter he averaged 20 points which indicates what he can do if given proper minutes.
The Pacers are still in the mix in the Eastern Conference and trading George is not the best move to make. Don’t shut your best player out, get him help. Right now, Brandon Knight is the best option.
