The Phoenix Suns have experienced immense success over the last two seasons. A main reason for their solid play has been Goran Dragic.

However, with a player option looming, might Dragic test the waters and become a free agent at the end of the season? If so, could the Phoenix Suns trade Dragic before the trade deadline?

According to CBS Sports, Dragic is garnering the most attention on the trade market.

“Multiple teams already are inquiring as to what it would take to break up the Suns’ three-headed guard rotation of Dragic, Eric Bledsoe and Isaiah Thomas — with Dragic, a prospective free agent, garnering the most attention”

The report goes on to state that of the three-guard back court Dragic is the most likely to stay in Phoenix, if the team does indeed decide to make a move. However, if the team stands pat and doesn’t trade, what will Dragic do in the off-season?

He gave some insight into a possible destination when he spoke to the New York Post.

“Every team that is going to be available for me is going to be an option, You know, I think New York, they have great base of fans, great basketball organization.”

Could Dragic be the next point guard in Gotham? The Knicks are indeed looking for a man to lead their offense, and Dragic fits the bill perfectly. This season, he is averaging 16 points and 4.1 assists.

The numbers seem average, but we must take into consideration Dragic is sharing the court with one, sometimes two, other point guard(s). When Dragic is the main ball-handler, he has shown that he can handle point guard duties exceptionally well.

Before Thomas signed in Phoenix this year, Dragic averaged 20.3 points and 5.9 assists, most of which was played without Bledsoe, who was out with injury.

Playing in New York would give Dragic the opportunity to run his own offense, and the chance to play with Carmelo. His assist numbers will go up, and while his scoring might go down, Dragic is a versatile and crafty player who will find a way to make his impact on the game.

Dragic has stated he wants to stay in Phoenix, so, I wouldn’t read to much into him leaving for the Big Apple. If he does indeed test the free agent market, Dragic is certainly a possibility for New York and many other teams.
