Carmelo Anthony Scores 62 Points, Sets New Madison Square Garden Record : Thanks to an impressive 37-point first half, New York Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony scored 62 points on 23-of-35 shooting in a 125-96 win over the Charlotte Bobcats Friday. Anthony’s 62 point-outburst broke both the franchise and current MSG records held by Knicks Hall of Famer Bernard King’s record of 60, set against the New Jersey—now Brooklyn—Nets on Christmas day in 1984.

Seahawks CB Richard Sherman Fined $7,875 For Taunting Niners In NFC Championship Game : After making a game-saving deflection to help secure Seattle’s second trip to the Super Bowl, cornerback Richard Sherman would be fined $7,875 Friday by the NFL for making a choking gesture towards the Niners bench reportedly directed at quarterback Colon Kaepernick.  After tipping the ball—meant for wide receiver Michael Crabtree—Sherman ran over, after tapping Crabtree’s backside and extended his hand for a handshake, Crabtree would then shove Sherman in the face.

Chelsea Sell MF Juan Mata To Manchester United For £37 Million : According Sky Sports, Chelsea has agreed to sell Spanish midfielder Juan Mata to Manchester United for a reported club-record fee of £37 million pounds($61.5 million US).  Originally acquired from Valencia for £23.5 million in 2011, Mata has three goals, two assists in 17 apps for the Blues. Chelsea is also reportedly close to a deal for 21-year-old Egypian striker, Mohamed Salah of FC Basel for a fee of £11 million to replace the soon-to-be departed Mata.  Arsenal In On Schalke’s Julian Draxler? According to The Telegraph, the EPL-leading Gunners are closing to landing Schalke forward Julian Draxler for a reported fee of £36 million($59.3 million US) Thanks to the season-ending loss of forward Theo Walcott and the bad form of Lukas Podolski, Arsenal need to land a quality asset such as the 20-year-old German.
