It is normal for the dog owners to bring their favorite dog(s) along for trips in their vehicle. Dogs will always remain a man’s best friend. Going for a trip with dogs in your car can leave behind unwanted smell even if they have the most well-mannered dog around. However, the dog’s bad smell is easy to eliminate.

What You Have To Know Before Doing Away With The Dog’s Smell

Before you start using the methods below, it is recommended you vacuum the upholstery using a dry or wet vacuum, hand-held vacuum, or the vacuum at a self-serve car wash. This process will help in removing pet hair and any loose dirt, permitting you to eliminate the source of the unwanted pet smell easily.

Otherwise, your energy and effort will be like attempting to clean a tile floor using a dirty mop.

Method 1: Use Baking Soda

 

The baking soda is well known for absorbing smells without adding any unwanted smell of its own.

Items needed

• Bowl

• Baking soda

Step 1 Put a ¼ cup of the baking soda in a small open container or a bowl and place your container or bowl in the middle of the car. Ensure you place the bowl in an area where the baking soda will not spill over on car carpet. The best location includes at the center console or the middle of the dashboard.

Step 2 Let the baking soda to settle undisturbed during the whole night and perform its work in absorbing the dog’s odor while you are sleeping.

Step 3 Remove the baking powder container/bowl and discard it when you are set to drive your vehicle again. If the dog’s odor becomes stubborn, it is recommended you leave the baking soda in the vehicle for several days.

Method 2: Utilize Vinegar To Neutralize The Dog’s Smell

 

When water mixed with vinegar evaporates in the air, results in a neutralization reaction between the chemicals of the unwanted smell and the evaporated vinegar. This mixture is a great way of doing away with the dog’s smell in your vehicle.

Materials Needed

• White vinegar

• Water

• Spray bottle

Step 1

Create a vinegar solution by mixing equal amounts of the water and white vinegar in the spray bottle.

Step 2

Spray your solution on the car carpet and all the fabrics in the car’s interior. You should spray the solution evenly and lightly. It is recommended you apply enough amount of the mixture to feel damp when you touch the fabrics but not much damp.

Step 3

Allow the mixture to air dry for some few hours and then repeat the procedure in case of any dog’s odors remain.

Method 3: Wash Your Car

 

To remove the dog’s smell from your vehicle, you can as well wash your car’s interiors. After the washing the interiors, allow the wet surfaces to dry and spray the interiors with a great air freshener.

Conclusion: Bringing a dog to a road trip could be a bit enjoyable, but at the end of the day, the dog’s odor will remain in your car. However, this should not stop you from bringing your dog in the car since there are easy methods of doing away with the dog’s smell.
