From one of the oldest rides at the Magic Kingdom to the big screen adaptation Pirates of the Caribbean has been a hit success for Disney. The movies have been a fan favorite for years even if they’ve stumbled along the way. Six years since the franchise last release comes Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

One of the bright spots in Super Bowl 51’s commercials was this tv spot:

Returning to the franchise is longtime fan favorite Orlando Bloom as Will Turner. Kept out of On Stranger Tides it has been almost a decade since we’ve seen his character. Bloom was the perfect compliment to Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow in the first three films. Can the duo take the franchise back to its previous glory?

Depp could use a win with the next PotC installment. His more recent films such as Mortdecai, Transcendence and The Lone Ranger have been hit or miss among critics. Easily one of Hollywoods top actors he returns to a role he always knocks out of the park. Hopefully, a six-year span between films is enough to get the franchise back on track after its initial success.

While the films never ceased in popularity, they often declined from film to sequel. Each of the prior films had 3 to 4 years before a sequel was released. Maybe the extra two years are what fans needed to come back. Either that or hopefully the studio put the extra effort into bringing back the excitement and comedy of the films.

Without a doubt, Dead Men Tell No Tales can be one of the year’s biggest films. The franchise has one of the largest fanbases. However, if they stick to the script and play it safe it will be a huge disappointment. They need to go back to their roots, find the background characters who brought the additional humor and focus on story rather than just good acting. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is set to release May 26th of this year.
