The Pittsburgh Steelers are perennial contenders. They have a solid defense, an unstoppable offense, and strong leadership. However, they are getting long in the tooth at certain positions. That leads to eyes being on youth in 2017. Here are three players to watch for the Steelers in 2017.

JuJu Smith-Schuster – WR

Smith-Schuster will see immediate action on the Pittsburgh Steelers WRs. Todd Haley loves to spread teams out and utilize his weapons. With the uncertainty of Martavis Bryant, Smith-Schuster is added weapon. He ran a 4.5 40 at the combine. He also has good size at 6’1.” He is a very confident route runner and loves to go over the middle. His field awareness allows for many YAC yards.

Currently, Smith-Schuster is sitting behind Eli Rogers on the depth chart. However, the depth chart does not matter in Pittsburgh. It is Antonio Brown and Company. Look for announces to be calling the name of Smith-Schuster a lot for the Steelers offense.

T.J. Watt – LB

Watt, the younger brother of JJ Watt, was the first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Currently, he is second on the depth chart behind the legendary James Harrison. Who better to learn behind than that man? Watt is a tall LB. He stands 6’4”, which may hinder him a little in pass coverage. However, he is a tremendous pass rusher. He uses his hands exceptionally well and if he does not get to the QB knows how to defend passes.

The Steelers will primarily use him in pass rushing situations. Although, his ability to keep his hands free may make him available on some run-downs. He is excellent tackler. He consistently wraps up and finishes plays.

Joshua Dobbs – QB

There is a noticeable difference to the Pittsburgh Steelers when Ben Roethlisberger is not on the field. There is also a need to begin looking for his replacement. Especially since Big Ben was contemplating retirement at the end of 2016. Dobbs could be both of those players. The backup and the future.

Dobbs is athletically gifted. Right now, he is a serviceable backup. Although he is currently sitting number three, I would not expect that after training camp. The Steelers know what they have in Landry Jones. If, or when, Roethlisberger goes down, they are going to need someone to keep them afloat. Dobbs is that person.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be one of the teams to beat in the AFC. Not just in terms of playoffs but also in Super Bowl talk. If there is one team that can give the New England Patriots a problem, it is the Steelers.
