The Arizona Cardinals may find it difficult to stay out of the NFC West cellar. Reports are indicating that running back Andre Ellington may miss significant time due to a foot injury as he underwent an MRI today to find out the extend of an injury he received recently in practice.

Last season Arizona struggled to run the football and protect quarterback Carson Palmer who got sacked 41 times. Ellington drafted in the sixth-round out of Clemson in 2013  appeared in 15 games and became the Cardinals primary backup to the now retired Rashard Mendenhall.

Mendenhall who suffered his share of injuries throughout his six year career, carried the ball 217 times for 687 yards and eight touchdowns, yet averaged 3.2 yards per carry the lowest of his career in which he played more than 10 games. As for Ellington he became the lone bright spot out of the backfield rushing for 652 yards on 118 carries, three touchdowns and averaged 5.5 yards per carry and was utilized more in the passing game as he caught 39 passes for 371 yards and a touchdown.

If Ellington does miss time Arziona doesn’t have much depth with  Stepfan Taylor (most likely to start) , Robert Hughes and fifth year back Jonathan Dwyer (short yardage/goal line back).
