According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III could miss the Browns home opener against the Baltimore Ravens

Griffin III, a free-agent singing in the off-season after being unceremoniously dumped by the Washington Redskins, suffered what is being described as a “potentially serious” sprained left shoulder injury to his non-throwing shoulder, after undergoing an MRI on his shoulder after the Browns 29-10 Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

In what be another tough break for the former Heisman Trophy winner out of Baylor, Griffin III, appeared to have suffered the injury while running out of bounds after an 11-yard scramble and being struck in the shoulder area by an Eagles rookie cornerback Jalen Mills.

Since coming into the league back in 2012, Griffin III, has battled a slew of injuries, and has been able to regain his former NFL Offensive Rookie Of The Year form. Criticized for being too much of a runner and not enough of a pocket passer during his time in our nation’s capital, RGIII appeared to be making some progress under noted QB whisper in new Browns heralded coach Hue Jackson.

Now, that dream appeared to be derailed, as the Browns must once again go with a different QB under center in Josh McCown and prep another untested rookie in Cody Kessler out of USC

If Griffin III is unable to go, McCown will likely start in his place and Kessler as the primary backup.

For the game, Griffin III completed 12-of-26 passes for 190 yards and threw one interception, was sacked three times and posted a QBR of 22.2

Already behind the proverbial eight ball with RGIII sidelined, the Browns must now go in yet another unfortunate direction at QB sooner than they had hoped.

UPDATE: Per NFL.com’s Ian Rappaport, RGIII will be placed on the IR.
