INSCMagazine: Get Social!

When it comes to roof checks, maintenance or repairs you can’t afford to mess around, as botch jobs or time wasters could leave you seriously out of pocket, and at worst your home or business premises unfit for purpose. However, knowing you want to find the best possible UK roofing services company doesn’t automatically make it easy to know how to actually spot one. That’s why we’ve put together this handy guide which covers the main things you should be looking for when searching for a top quality roofing company in the UK.

Experience
A committed and hard working recently qualified roofer may be a better bet than someone who is very well established but work shy or sloppy. What really matters is that they are familiar with the type of roof you need them to look at, (flat, house, apartment building?), and that they can prove this.

Honest reviews
Always look at several different review sites as well as social media pages to get an honest overall opinion of a roofing services company. This helps you avoid being swayed by fake reviews, which can be both good and bad. A simple Google search of the name and ‘reviews’ should produce plenty of leads. Most people who write reviews care about similar things, largely the quality of work, the cost, and the reliability of the roofer, so you should be able to get a good impression of at least these things.

Membership of professional bodies
These all require a paid membership and offer various benefits to members. The NFRC [National Federation of Roofing Contractors] boasts around 70% of all UK roofing contractors are members, which means agreeing to their code of practice, being vetted, and being checked up on regularly. The Institute of Roofing registers individuals committed to providing a professional roofing service, and the CORC [Confederation of Roofing Contractors] offer member benefits such as company client credit checks and insurance cover.

Pre-contracting services
A decent roofing company will happily offer no-obligation quote, and unless you are totally sure of the problem this should generally involve a visit to inspect the roof. Ideally, it’s best to get around three quotes before making a decision, and then widening the search if none of those appeal. This is also the point where you can ask questions about things like materials, estimated timescales, and perhaps also for visual proof of their previous work. A good company won’t mind connecting you to previous customers, (although of course they will all be the satisfied ones!) See more about contracts through roofing repair edinburgh, they have a great range of resources there.

Price
Although it is tempting try not to go straight for the cheapest quote without checking other factors like reviews first. Some companies may seem good value but cut costs on materials or do rush jobs. On the other had a small roofing company may not need to pay VAT, which reduces the overall cost dramatically.

Using these suggestions should help you find the best possible roofing contractor in your area, so take your time, and choose carefully.
