On Friday morning San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith got arrested on suspicion of a DUI, marijuana possession and pills were also found.

After today’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts 49ers CEO Jed York has announced that Smith will not play on Thursday night against the St. Louis Rams and won’t be with the team for an indefinite period of time as he enters rehab. York said “I am willing to support Aldon as long as he is willing to work at this and fight to get better.”

Under the collective bargaining agreement San Francisco couldn’t suspend Smith and the NFL couldn’t for the personal-conduct policy as well due to his most recent case still be adjudicated.

The linebacker has stated “I apologize to the team and the organization. This is something that I will get fixed. I will do everything in my power to make sure this never happens again.” Here’s hoping that is true since he’s been in trouble before as well in January of 2012 he did get arrested for a supposed DUI, yet the charges got reduced to reckless driving and he’s being sued as well for a shooting that happened at a party he had thrown.

When cornerback Carlos Rogers heard of Smith’s arrest he told him “I just told him you’ve got a lotoftalent. And you can make lot of money in this league. I think you’re one of the guys that can set the record for sacks.  Your motor, your work ethic … But when you’re off the field, you’ve got to take that same mindset that you have when you’re around us.”

Vernon Davis had this to say since the league has a number to call to get a rid when having too much to drink “some guys listen, some guys don’t. I mean, there’s nothing I can do about it. I can’t go up to anyone in locker room and say, ‘hey, listen. You better not drink and drive.’ You just can’t do that. There’s a saying: You can take the horse to the water, but you can’t make him drink it.”

Now Smith has a great opportunity with rehab to get his act together and stay away from trouble, so he doesn’t waste his talent.
