I find it ironic that the day that I read a story about Shawn Michaels discussing who he might want to face should he get back in the ring, is the same night that the former WWE superstar confronts Roman Reigns about his chances with The Undertaker.

The segment was done very well, with Michael’s spewing the gospel about how intimidating the Dead Man is and how beating him is no small feat. The fans loved listening to the Heartbreak Kid but were more than willing to give Reigns the usual brushoff.
Reigns is setting himself up for a heel turn, telling Michaels that it was Undertaker who retired him, and that he was going to retire Undertaker. It wasn’t the stuff of legend, but it worked nicely heading into WrestleMania 33 where the Big Guy has a chance to do something only Brock Lesnar has done in recent memory. I am sure WWE will book a rougher, meaner Reigns as the weeks draw closer to Orlando.
I was also impressed with the bump Reigns took from Braun Strowman on the ramp as he walked back to the locker room. What WWE plans to do with the superhuman villain must be determined as soon as possible.
Aside from that segment, and the closing 15 minutes of Monday Night Raw, I wasn’t impressed with how the Red Team continues to disappoint. There are 19 days until Orlando and at times, I swear the McMahons have no idea what they’re doing.
The news about Michael’s talking with Sports Illustrated about wrestlers he would enjoy working with undoubtedly turned some heads, and got the rumor mill ramped up again. The 51-year-old superstar has proclaimed on many occasions that he is done with wrestling. But talk about meeting wrestlers like Samoa Joe, Seth Rollins and AJ Styles of course leads many of us fans to believe there is still one more match in him and whether he scratches it or not in Orlando remains to be seen. I doubt seriously he will make an appearance at the company’s biggest event in six weeks, but SummerSlam is not out of the possibility of possibility.
Michael’s was very candid in the fact that matches with Styles and Rollins are harder to prepare for. They are more taxing on his body. Samoa Joe presents a different opportunity and because he has had a chance to see Joe in action when he was NXT Champion, that type of skill set presents an easier time in the ring for the unseasoned Michaels. He even joked that wrestling Joe would be much easier because of Joe’s aggressive nature, and the fact that Michael’s plays the role of getting beaten up very well. Everyone should stay tuned for this one.
I doubt anything will come of this interview. I doubt Michael will get back in the ring. I doubt there will be any chance of seeing a mega match with Rollins or Styles or even Joe. But I do think this is that an article picked the curiosity, asking again “what if?”
Michael’s will continue to make guest appearances, tout wrestling events, and work with up-and-coming stars in Orlando. But the idea of the Heartbreak Kid getting back in the ring is just that, heartbreaking. No matter how much we might want it, it’s not going to happen.
