Welcome to The Inscriber: Digital Magazine’s Sunday morning news roundup, The Byline Sunday Report, will feature a compilation of news events that are current and relevant.

Short and sweet, The Byline Report will touch upon events with a blurb of facts and information, along with a small percentage of opinion. Without further ado, here are the news events for Sunday morning, August 11th, that are making headlines already:

Ted Cruz’s father compares Barack Obama to Fidel Castro and stated “Obamacare is going to destroy the elderly.” Starting on August 29th the elder Cruz will embark on a Defund Obamacare Tour as he believes that “this administration has both their hands in your pocket. They’re going to take everything you have.

In reality this is another example of conservatives trying to get rid of a law by using fear tactics and fortunately Obamacare isn’t going anywhere. If anything it’s Cruz’s father who will have his hands in their pockets in what will become another failed attempt against Obamacare.

For Oakland Athletics right fielder Josh Reddick it has been a season to forget. On April 7th he attempted to catch a foul ball and banged his wrist against a wall. Still played through the pain before being placed on the disabled list. During the 22 games with the injury he hit .162, with no home runs, 10 rbi and struck out 24 times. After returning on May 31st his bat got going and he hit .267 with three home runs and 18 rbi in 37 games, yet over the past several weeks has slumped again.

The answer came in form of the Toronto Blue Jays as on Friday night he hit three home runs and drove in five and on Saturday afternoon he added two more home runs, which put him into double digits on the season with 10.

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher is unhappy with Cleveland Browns color commentator Bernie Kosar who took shots at Kellen Clemens who had signed an autograph for Pope Benedict XVI. He also went Tavon Austin as well.

Fisher said “I guess I’m a little disappointed. I feel bad for them that they had someone doing their broadcast feel the need to speak that way about players, specifically on our team and coaches for that matter. I’m just surprised that Bernie has such a lack of respect for players and this game. To be honest with you, I lost a lot of respect for him. It’s highly unlikely he knew anything about our football team, but felt the need to make those comments. I don’t think they were justified.

Tim Tebow underwhelmed in his debut with New England Patriots as he went 4/12 for 55 yards and got sacked 3 times. He did get the chance to run with the football collecting 31 yards rushing on 4 carries. Running back LeGarrette Blount did make a name for himself with 11 carries for 101 yards two touchdowns including one that went for 51 yards helping the Patriots beat the Philadelphia Eagles 31-22.

Ken Griffey Jr., the Seattle Mariners greatest player in team history got put into the organization’s Hall of Fame on Saturday. In his 13 seasons with the club he hit .292, with 417 home runs, 1,216 rbi, 167 stolen bases, 341 doubles and 1,113 runs scored. He also won a MVP in 1997 and 10 gold gloves.
