Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan is one of the most athletic big men in the NBA. Last night he provided that example with his alley-oop dunk on Detroit Pistons guard Brandon Knight.

The play started with Chris Paul taking the ball up from half court and dribbling to just inside the three-point line on the right side of the court. He ended up throwing the ball up for grabs with Jordan snatching the ball out of the air using his left arm to shield himself from the leaping Knight and throwing it down with one hand.

No doubt it’s a great dunk and yet through Twitter a hash tag of “RipBrandonKnight” got made or even one of the biggest sports websites wondering if it was the best in-game dunk of all-time. It just illustrates just how ridiculous of an overreaction there is to the dunk. Yes, an argument gets made for it being the best dunk of 2012-2013 and that’s as far as it goes nowhere near being the greatest.

Though rookie Harrison Barnes might have something to say about that with his posterization of Nikola Pekovic.

Time to tone down the reaction to it as without hesitation there are dunks that come to mind that are better such as Baron Davis on Jermaine O’Neal where the announcer exclaims “that’s on your family” another Davis entry this one in the playoffs Andrei Kirilenko, Shawn Kemp over Alton Lister, Kevin Johnson taking it to Hakeem Olajuwon and again on John “Hot Rod” Williams, Vince Carter rising above Frederic Weis, John Starks takes on the Chicago Bulls defense, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen posters of Patrick Ewing.

For those who have yet to see the dunk by Jordan or Barnes here’s the clips of those highlights.
