Thor: Ragnarok
INSCMagazine: Get Social!

Despite no movies being released, it has been a busy week for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In particular, fans of Thor have gotten a handful of goodies to enjoy over the course of the last few days.

It all started with the release of the Entertainment Weekly cover. This seemed to drop out of nowhere, giving fans their first official glimpse at Thor: Ragnarok, which is set for release on November 3, 2017. This gave fans a look at not only the film’s villain Hela, who is played by Cate Blanchett, but also Valkyrie, who is played by Tessa Thompson. In addition, buzz started over the fact that Thor was missing his long locks. Oh on top of all of that, the God of Thunder was wielding two swords, not his trusty hammer, Mjolnir.

Shortly after this, fans were then treated to a series of official photos from the film. You can check out those photos here. Then today, a full film synopsis was released, revealing some extra tidbits about the film. So with all of this information coming out about the November film, the logical question is when are getting a trailer?

The typical timeline for Marvel is to release a film’s first trailer roughly six months prior to the release date. Now they sometimes will give fans an early treat, by releasing it maybe another month ahead of that timeline. If we look at the six-month gap, that puts us at May 3rd. It just so happens that the first MCU film to get released this year, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be coming out May 5th. So at the very latest, that is when we will be getting our first glimpse of gladiator Thor.

But with another month and a half until then, I have a sneaky suspicion we will be getting it sooner than that. I doubt the studio would want to release two new trailers at the same time, and Spider-Man: Homecoming could be due for its second trailer by the time May rolls around. So if that is true, Marvel may opt to give fans that early present by releasing a trailer by early April. This would mean they could have trailers for both of their films set for release later in 2017.

With this flurry of Thor activity, hopes are high that the first trailer is right around the corner. Worst case scenario is we need to wait until early May. But with the buzz around Ragnarok right now, keep an eye out in the coming weeks.
