The Associated Press was the first to report this, but Tiger Woods won’t be participating in the 2017 Masters. This happens to be the third time in four years that he will be missing the major tournament. He announced on Friday night through his website that his rehab simply didn’t allow him to return in time for the event. In his statement, he didn’t provide a date of when he would return. He ended up withdrawing from the Dubai Desert Classic in early February when he shot a 77. He claimed that it was back problems that caused him to withdraw. In addition to the Dubai Desert, he also withdrew from his own tournament in Riviera, the Honda Classic, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

It seems that since he has had issues with his back over the last few years, he has gone downhill. For as long as I could remember, Tiger was on the top of the golf world, Now he is ranked 757th which is not great at all. It would be worth noting that from 1998-2010, Tiger Woods was ranked either 1 or 2 in the Golf world. He would have a brief return to the top of the Golf world when he was ranked 3rd in 2012 and 1st in 2013. It would be 2014 when the decline for Tiger Woods would begin as he finished off the season ranked 32nd. As of the end of 2016, he was ranked 652.

The Masters gets started on Monday with the practice round and actual play begins on Thursday, April 6th.
