Could we see Tim Tebow on a baseball field soon?

Yahoo Sports Jeff Passan is reporting that a Venezuelan winter baseball team has offered the former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow a contract. This contract offer comes hours before he is scheduled to hold a tryout for several MLB teams on Tuesday in Los Angeles, California. He is attempting to embark on a new career in professional baseball after his football career went nowhere.

The team that happens to be offering Tim Tebow a contract happens to be theAguilas del Zulia. They happen to be a five-time Venezuelan Professional Baseball League champion and have also gone on to win the Caribbean Series twice. Tebow has gone on record by saying that he would be interested in playing winter ball as he figures out his future.

Luis Amaro, the General Manager of the Aguilas, spoke with Yahoo Sports about offering Tim Tebow a contract. He said, “ He is a great talent,” “ He is an athlete and has won the Heisman. He has won two national championships with the Gators. I know baseball is a hard game, but he will either adjust and show that he is ready to play professional baseball or not. I think it is a high reward for our team.” Going based on that quote, one could wonder if they are offering him a contract to get some eyes on their team.

Tebow only played 34 games in the NFL and was last seen playing for the New York Jets in 2012 and has not played organized baseball since his high school days. I find this who story to be odd that Tebow is somehow figuring that a Major League team is going to over him a contract. It is very rare for a player to jump from one sport to another and be on such a high level.

The last one that comes to mind that was able to do this successfully is Bo Jackson. He ended up playing for the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Royals.

It will be interesting to see if an MLB team does give Tebow a contract or if he ends up playing for this Venezuelan team for winter ball.
