Lamar Jackson

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, but NFL rookie-to-be Lamar Jackson got a huge endorsement from one of the NFL’s greatest quarterbacks this week. New England Patriots’ stud Tom Brady raved about Jackson, a player whose style is opposite of what the five-time Super Bowl champion shows on the field.

Per Chase Goodbread of NFL.com, “On Wednesday, following NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks’ suggestion that Lamar Jackson could be a strong option for New England as it looks to rebuild its quarterback depth behind Brady, the three-time MVP gave Jackson a strong endorsement on Instagram.”

Those kinds of words may have the Patriots, who are still looking for a backup and eventual replacement for Tom Brady, thinking about taking the former Heisman Trophy winner from Louisville. The Patriots own the 23rd and 31st picks in the NFL Draft and would likely move up to select Jackson. The team also owns two second round picks and have four of the first 63 selections.

Tom Brady has played at such a high level, even 40 years old. Last season, the New England Patriots traded his backup, Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers.

“Jackson’s skills as a runner have drawn comparisons to Mike Vick after he posted back-to-back seasons of 1,500-plus rushing yards at Louisville,” added Goodbread. “As a passer, he threw for 57 touchdowns and 19 interceptions over those two years, although there are scouting concerns about his accuracy.”

Jackson is one of six quarterbacks who could be taken in the first round of the draft in two weeks. Jackson is all over mock draft boards. The most recent mock draft by Walterfootball.com has his slotted at No. 27 to the New Orleans Saints.

In the mock draft I wrote for The Inscriber Digital Magazine, Jackson lands with the Buffalo Bills with the 12th pick in the first round.
