Will tonight’s UFC Fight Night Frank Mir vs Bigfoot Silva be worth the price of admission?

Granted, the card is on free TV, but doesn’t provide many known names or fighters that most fans would care about. The biggest reason to tune in however, is the fact that this may be the last time we see UFC legend and two time UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir grace the cage.

As noted in my column earlier this week, Mir is riding a four-fight losing streak and hopes that tonight can be step one in turning things around, and not his final step into retirement. Mir covets another shot at Brock Lesnar who is rumored to return, and that makes tonight a must win for him if he wants the chances to stay alive.

His opponent Antonio Big Foot Silva remains a mystery as he had an up down career of late as well. He seems to win matches he shouldn’t, against the likes of Andrei Arlovski, Fedor Emelianenko, and Alistair Overeem. At the same time however, he has been embarrassed in several knockout losses to the likes of Andrei Arlovski, Daniel Cormier, Cain Velasquez twice and in the one fight he looked good against Mark Hunt, he had to forfeit because he later tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone.

In my mind, and the minds of many MMA analysts, Silva will go down as one of the biggest under achievers in MMA history when you take in to account his size. He stands at Six foot four inches and is larger than most heavyweights. Yet, despite his size and experience his record is just 18-6. With five of those losses coming in his last 10 fights.

My official prediction is that Mir staves off retirement victory for one more fight, with a brutal third round knockout of Silva tonight in Brazil.

Until next time fight fans, No Blood : No Foul
