When the Washington Redskins finished their game in Dallas against the Dallas Cowboys, there was something left behind, a victory. This was most certainly a game in which the Redskins should have won. There was plenty of opportunities left on the field. Even with the loss, the Redskins are still eyeing a playoff berth. Here are my observations from Thursday’s heartbreaking loss at Dallas.

Defense needs to be off-season focus

The Washington Redskins have one of the best offenses in the league. We will touch on that a bit later on. However, their defense needs a lot of work. They have a couple of playmakers, but there is not enough on this squad. Chris Baker, Ryan Kerrigan, Preston Smith, and Josh Norman are all stars and playmakers. But they do not show up every week, which there lies a problem. To be a good defense, you need to make plays each and every week. All it took was one stop in the second half of the game against the Cowboys and victory would have been within reach. There are five games left on their schedule. If they want to be a legitimate playoff team, they need their playmakers to show up every week.

It is not Jay Gruden’s fault

The head coach has a lot of things to take care of before, during, and after a football game. There are calls during a game that he must agree with, especially if he does not call the play. The first onside kick in the 4th quarter of the game was a call that Gruden made. Executed perfectly and you catch your opponent off guard and maintain momentum. Some may look at the call as a lack of confidence in a defense to stop the opponent. Others may look at it as if we do not get it. I have confidence in my defense to hold them to a minimum of 3 points. Either way, the call was a gutsy call. The loss is not on Jay Gruden.

Offense is lethal

The offense of the Washington Redskins is as lethal as it gets. Sean McVay, Jay Gruden, and company on the offensive side of the ball are cooking with gas. They are finding a stride that is not found by most teams in the NFL. Do they have issues? Yes, red zone scoring comes to mind. But they have so many playmakers on this side of the ball, that when one goes down someone else steps up. This team can score with anyone in the league, even inside the 20 when it wants to. There will never be a blame on the offense from me when it comes to losing. When you can score at will, punt only once per game on average, and never be out of a game your offense is not the problem.

The Washington Redskins have a great offense, tough as nails head coach, but a defense that has as many holes as a colander. There better be a wake-up call in the defensive meeting room this week. Defensive Coordinator Joe Berry should be on high alert. They have 10 days before they play the Arizona Cardinals. Get it right! ALWAYS HTTR!!!!
