In 2018, Marvel will be releasing its biggest film yet: Avengers: Infinity War. If you thought Captain America: Civil War was big, just wait until May 4, 2018, when the next installment of the Avengers series hits theaters. The film was initially expected to be a two-part film, with part two coming a year later, it was announced earlier this year that the 2019 film would not have the Infinity War tag.

But 2019 is still ways away. When it comes to the Avengers, all eyes are on the 2018 installment that is set to feature Thanos and the Infinity Stones. It will also feature a good portion of the major MCU heroes that we have come to know and love already. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will appear. The Guardians of the Galaxy will be showing up, with Star-Lord rumored to have a major role. The core Avengers will obviously be showing up, as well as Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange.

But one hero who has yet to be confirmed for the film is Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man. Scott Lang and his shrinking suit will be showing up in 2018, as Ant-Man and the Wasp will be coming to a theater near you on July 6th, 2018. This means the film is set to occur in between the two Avengers films. This has led to some speculation that maybe he will not be showing up in Infinity War along with all of his other hero friends.

That rumor was only flamed on Sunday, when actress Evangeline Lilly, who plays Hope Van Dyne made comments that her character will be appearing in the 2019 installment of the Avengers, but not the 2018 Infinity War. You can view the full interview here.

So Hope will not be showing up in Infinity War because they want to save the Wasp’s (Van Dyne’s superhero alter ego) origin story for Ant-Man and the Wasp. This makes perfect sense, especially given how crowded Avengers: Infinity War is going to be. There simply would not be time to give the character the proper introduction as a hero. However, in a film dedicated to the character and her partner, a lot more focus can be given to that side of the story.

But that brings us back to Ant-Man. With Wasp being confirmed to not being in Infinity War, where does that leave Ant-Man? He is obviously capable of showing up without any of his supporting cast, as he did just that in Captain America: Civil War.

With so many other characters appearing, he is certainly not necessary. By leaving Scott Lang out of the next Avengers film, it is one less story-line the writers need to worry about. That makes me believe they will be leaving Ant-Man out of Avengers: Infinity War. He will still be showing up later that year, so it is not like fans will be going a long time without seeing him.

At the most, a small cameo type role could be enough. Let him pop up towards the end of the film to help set up where he is for his film with Wasp. That film could then conclude with how he gets involved in the Avenger’s story-line.
