Penn State is in a great position to do some damage over the next handful of seasons. Even with Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin having success in the BIG10 over the past few years, Penn State has a lot of reasons to be smiling from ear to ear. Over the next several years, they can really show the nation why no one should be counting out the blue and white. Here’s how the Nittany Lions can be victorious in the BIG 10 for many years to come.

  1. Develop a schedule that contains mostly easy wins. Obviously, they should want to have a few tough opponents every year, because if they refuse to do that, then the playoff committee will not consider PSU a true national title contender. If the Buckeyes and Wolverines continue to schedule the likes of Florida, Oklahoma, etc. then that could leave the door open for PSU to make a case for the BIG 10 title for years to come.
  2. Recruits want to go somewhere that gives them an opportunity to play a good amount of snaps. Not every high-end prospect can head to Ohio State or Michigan, it would get too crowded. Penn State had the third best draft class in the BIG 10 this year. The Buckeyes and Wolverines had more 5-star and 4- star recruits, but that could end up being a good thing in the long haul for James Franklin and the Nittany Lions. My theory is that the more 5-star and 4-star prospects a team has, the more likely they will end up leaving before their senior year and therefore creating a lot of turnovers. PSU has been drafting 3-star recruits as well as 4-star recruits. Not only can they attract high-end talent, but they shouldn’t lose much from year to year.
  3. Find a way to get recruits to commit from areas that are rich in talent. This year a lot of Ohio State recruits came from Texas. Michigan got some recruits from Georgia and Alabama. If the Nittany Lions can take away some of the talents from their rivals, they will be commanding more attention from nearly every great player in America today. Other teams in the BIG 10 will be on its heels and the Nittany Lions will be churning out BIG 10 Titles left and right.
