INSCMagazine: Get Social!

They say that good things come in small packages. Normally, in the modeling world, this is not the case. In an industry that typically asks for models to be a minimum of 5’9, there have been many models who have defied this status quo.

Names such as Victoria’s Secret alum Laetitia Casta (5’6), model/actress appearing in DC’s Suicide Squad Cara Delevingne (5’7), 90’s icon Kate Moss (5’7), Furious alum Devon Aoki (5’5) and current “it” girl in Emily Ratajkowski are examples of models who may not been as tall as many in the industry, but have made it big instead.

Could Philadelphia-born Sarah Maria Paul be the next?

unspecified1At 5’3, the feisty Philly babe has appeared in magazines such as ModelMania, Ravish Models and Vanquish, Paul’s sultry combination of curves and looks truly make her stand out.

Below is a Q and A with Ms. Paul in which we discuss modeling, sports and what it takes to get into the ever-competitive world of modeling.

R.C.: Where has been your favorite place to shoot?

S.M.P: This is a very hard question I can’t seem to find the answer for. I have had great experiences everywhere and in so many different studios. But I would have to say my favorite spot so far was the Nelson Ghost Town in Las Vegas. It was an amazing location with so many different backdrops to shoot on with beautiful scenery!

R.C.: What is the most exciting aspect of modeling?

S.M.P. The most exciting aspect of modeling is seeing your work get published.

R.C. With summer coming up soon, what are some tips for looking good and staying cool this summer?

S.M.P. Lots of sunscreen and hydration are most important.

R.C. Within the industry, who is your inspiration?

S.M.P. There are many classy and sexy women in the industry I look up to both past and present. To name a few, Cindy Crawford, Farrah Fawcett, Ruby Rose, Jane Russell, Betty Paige, Miranda Kerr, and Alessandra Ambrosio.

R.C. What first inspired you to go into modeling?

S.M.P. Modeling was never something I thought I would be doing, I sort of fell into it. In my early 20s I decided to treat myself to a professional photo shoot and I was amazed by the experience and how naturally it came to me. After that shoot and posting pictures online, booking new shoots and finding work followed easily.

R.C. Outside of modeling, what are your hobbies?

S.M.P. My favorite way to relax is listening to music. I can be driving in my car, folding laundry, cleaning or cooking, but as long as I’m listening to music, I feel incredibly relaxed. My idea of fun is hopping on the back of my boyfriend’s Harley and going for a nice long ride.

Sports question: Who are your favorite teams and clubs.

S.M.P. These are not really team sports but my favorite are boxing and bull riding.

R.C. What are your favorite cities to travel to?

S.M.P. NYC – It’s close and always very exciting. You can never be bored visiting that city!

unspecified2R.C. What advice would you give to women aspiring to get into the business?

S.M.P. There are many challenges about modeling, especially getting started and building your confidence in front of the camera. Keeping yourself original and unique is important so you don’t get lost in the competition.

One things I absolutely recommend to any new model, and I can say this from personal experience, is to never give into doing something you are not 100% comfortable with. Always stay true to yourself and don’t let anyone else try and define you or your career.
