Unapologetic. Blunt. No filter. Outsider.
If you are seen as too old, too short. too fat or too something. most modeling agencies will not even look at or even consider your portfolio.
In what is a cutthroat, unapologetic industry that makes no apologies about what size, shape, look and brand they wish to convey, the modeling world has always been fickle and very picky about what they want.
For every Janice Dickinson and Gia Carangi to the ill-tempered Naomi Campbell, there is a certain cadre of models that just simply live on the edge or have their own unique ‘tude.
There is a simple saying that I believe in—and can be applied to the world of modeling—is that beauty fades, but attitude lasts forever.
If there is anyone who best exemplifies this saying it is Des Moines,Iowa-born alternative model, Karla Force.
At the age of 38, Force is finding her own distinctive voice in becoming a force, in an age and industry in which some would consider the single mother of three too old, Force appears to be having the last laugh in being featured in prominent websites such as Internet Hollywood, founded by Justin Hamlet.
A self-described warrior and survivor, who has overcome her personal demons, Force is set to not only finally get her due, but also the last laugh over the many doubters, haters and naysayers.
Below is my Q and A with Ms. Force as we talk modeling, Internet Hollywood and springtime in Nebraska.
Name: Karla Force a.k.a. Karla Kitty
Birthplace: Des Moines, Iowa
Robert D. Cobb: What kind of model do you consider yourself? (Instagram, pin-up/glamour, fashion)
Karla Force: “I do multiple genres of modeling. However I specialize in fetish modeling.”
Robert D. Cobb: What brands have you modeled for? Which one do you enjoy modeling for the most?
Karla Force: “I have done some promotional work for Harley-Davidson. As I have only been in the modeling industry for the last year, I’ve not got to model many of brands. So clearly, Harley-Davidson is my favorite to date.”
Robert D. Cobb: Where has been your favorite place to shoot?
Karla Force: “I love studio shoots. It allows me to be free and express my artistic abilities without the judgement of the outside world.”
Robert D. Cobb: Any fashion tips for spring, new trends?
Karla Force: “Fashion tips for spring! Well here in Nebraska, the weather is really a hit and a miss. I’m honestly not much of a fashionista really. I’m your basic bitch. Jeans, shorts, tanks and flip flops. Night on the town for dinner? Nice sundress.
Going clubbing? Something fun revealing and adventurous.”
Robert D. Cobb: Any modeling projects in the works?
Karla Force: “My newest shoot will be taking place in May with thee Mr. Edward Moss. As many have recently seen. I have struggled with alcohol addiction throughout my life.
I wasn’t the shoot to reflect the struggle of this awful disease in time frames or a storyline…Where the Alcoholic is emerging from her addiction and basking in Ray’s of light. My personal journey of sorts.”
Robert D. Cobb: For those who don’t know, what is Internet Hollywood and describe your role with them?
Karla Force: “Internet Hollywood is the home of growing celebrities all over the Internet. They highlight events that some of the featured models are doing across the world. Justin Hamlett is the owner of Internet Hollywood. Mr. Hamlett friended me back In November 2016.
He watched my work via FB for about 3 months before he approached me about what a huge fan he was and how much he admired my talent, and tenacity to do what I do. Even boasting about my online presence, gaining and attracting so much attention.
It’s not just about the images I create, it’s about the online persona I’ve put out there.
I’m funny I’m witty I’m sarcastic, I put people in their place I’m a no holds bar, no filter, tell it like it is kind of girl, often even called unprofessional. I’ve been asked to clean it up or take it down and I would really like to, but that’s me this is my Facebook page it’s not my resume.
I keep it very very real. As even mentioned and one of Internet Hollywood articles I was actually discovered by scam artist. I was on Facebook one day minding my own business and up came along a bunch of people I don’t know, followers, fans just because of a pretty face, I didn’t really ask for any of this, I don’t know how to be a model.
I don’t know what the professionalism of it really is, but I know that I work hard at it. However I do truly enjoy the modeling. I love the images that I do create like I said I may not know all the ins and outs of this industry but I know that I’ve inspired a lot of people people.
They come to me for advice, people love my sarcasm, people love it when I’m real, loving and kind. I’ll take fans of mine and promote them on my page just to say look at that beautiful person. I help promote singers, other models, bands, you name it I try to help everybody on my page.
It is not only representational of me it’s about helping many others in this industry as well struggling artist, that is what my page represents is good karma and paying it forward.
My fans even watch some my personal struggles, some say don’t put that out there but the thing of it is, is I’m a fighter, I’m a warrior, I’m a survivor. I have to do it to help other people, to show people that things in life happen, and that it’s okay we can come back from it, and be bigger better stronger people through our trials tribulations, and it was Mr. Justin Hamlet that saw all this and recognized it publish me.
He did my very first publication on Internet Hollywood on my 38th birthday, and I was honored finally somebody had seen my hard work and dedication and what my true representation was I will forever be grateful to the owner of internet Hollywood thank you Mr. Hamlett, through your digital magazine, the world will see me through a different light and not just an attention seeker as some of the negative haters have proclaimed, that’s the only reason I’m doing this.
April 22nd of this month, Internet Hollywood is launching one of their first parties, inviting all of the Internet Hollywood sensations, Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it, I’m truly saddened by this but I know that I will be there in spirit it is a true honor to say that I am an internet Hollywood sensation.
There has been some talks about me becoming a board member. I have also found new models in the industry and suggested them to Mr. Hamlet, and Mr. Hamlet knows that I help promote and Inspire and encourage people and so he usually says I want to put her on there because you want to put her on there Karla.
Caitlin Linde, was in the process of being scammed by somebody that I had personally known I went and spoke to her told her stay away from that person bad news she did have many numbers on her fan page, so I asked Justin to help promote I also helps to promote her and her numbers are really taking off so I don’t know that I really do much for Internet Hollywood, but someday I probably will and I’d be honored to do so.”
Robert D. Cobb: What tips do you have for looking good this summer?
Karla Force: “My personal tips for looking good this summer, get out there get sun kissed stay healthy exercise eat right meditate stay healthy mentally as well mental state is going to exude who you are on the outside also, a beautiful heart and soul.”
Robert D. Cobb: What is the most exciting aspect of modeling?
Karla Force: “Personally for me, at my age of 38, I find it liberating and empowering. I love that I get to inspire all walks of life, to chase your dreams no matter what. In the modeling industry we all know it can be cut throat. I’ve been told on multiple occasions, that I’m not model material.
They proclaim my following is only because I am half nude. My following is based off my hard work and endless hours of dedication. The type of modeling I do takes a huge courage and a rare form of art that needs to displayed in facial expressions, and body language, and to execute that, is no easy task.”
Robert D. Cobb: Within the industry, who is your inspiration?
Karla Force: “Honestly my inspiration comes from myself, my kids, and my significant other. I have fought long and hard to make a child hood dream come true. Many have inspired me, however without the support and encouragement of my family, I would not be achieving my dream.”
Robert D. Cobb: What is your secret to staying in shape?
Karla Force: “Just keeping it real. A whole lot of sex! LOL”
Robert D. Cobb: Outside of modeling, what are your hobbies?
Karla Force: “I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family and friends. Love the outdoors and family vacays. When I’m adulting, love to go dancing and have a few drinks.”
Sports question: Who are your favorite teams and clubs?
Karla Force: “I am not a sports person what so ever. Matter of fact, it lead to one of my divorces. LOL”
What are your favorite cities to travel to?
Karla Force: “I love traveling to Orlando, Florida. Another place I enjoy going is back to where I grew up. Los Angeles, California. My dream destination is Hawaii.”
Robert D. Cobb: What advice would you give to women aspiring to get into modeling?
Karla Force: “My personal advice for aspiring models is, DO NOT GIVE UP! There will be haters, you need to drown out the negativity and dive into all the positivity. Believe in yourself. Step up your game with every shoot. Do your research on prospective photographers, magazines, and businesses making offers.
Networking is huge, I’ve spent many of hours, to gain the connections that I have. Be confident and inspire others. A successful model, empowers and inspires all walks of life, no matter what there dream is. Help promote and educate aspiring talent about the ins and outs of the business.
Lastly, be true to your self. Do not change and always remain humble. I was often told I didn’t present myself very professionally in my online presence. I branded myself, I remained true to my character, and never faltered. I didn’t want anyone to believe a false persona that I had created online.
Guess what? I succeeded faster than the false personas. So keep it real!”
