With the recent departure of Austin Aries still fresh in the minds of wrestling fans, WWE has made an incredible addition to its already deep NXT roster. Lio Rush, a 22-year-old, who has made a name for himself all around the world in wrestling promotions like Ring of Honor, Combat Zone Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, looks to make his next move to the biggest wrestling brand in the world.
Rush is an incredible young talent that has held many titles, one being a tag team championship for Maryland Championship Wrestling with WWE’s own Patrick Clark now wrestling under his new persona The Velveteen Dream on the NXT roster. The former CZW World Champ makes a jump to WWE and that has fans already thinking of the countless dream matches this young man can have made with the likes of Andrade Cien Almas, Johnny Gargano, Bobby Roode and Drew McIntyer to name a few. He will most definitely be an exceptional fit for the NXT brand, but one can only hope that his stature, standing just 5’6″ and only weighing 161 pounds, does not limit him to WWE’s cruiserweight division, although feuds with the WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville and a showdown with the extremely athletic wrestling savant Cedric Alexander would be an extremely high profile and absolutely incredible way to make his name known throughout the WWE Universe.
Lio is expected to join NXT next week after his WWE medical review is conducted. Look for Lio to make an immediate impact (upon passing his WWE Physical, of course) and fly up the NXT card to the main event scene in fairly short order. With the signing of Rush all but confirmed, WWE needs to now turn their attention to and focus on signing Adam Cole, former Bullet Club member and Ring of Honor’s only 3 time World Champion in company history. Ring of Honor’s championship history includes past champions the likes of Seth Rollins, CM Punk, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe and the aforementioned Austin Aries, a very star-studded and exceedingly talented line of champions without a doubt. If the NXT brand can secure Adam Cole’s services, Rush (while only being 22 years of age) and Cole (aged 28), can lead NXT into a very bright future and continue to grow the developmental system of the WWE.
