We might know what the plan for current WWE champion AJ Styles is set for heading into WrestleMania.
According to several wrestling sites, the plan that WWE is heading for is to have AJ Styles clash with WWE Smackdown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon. If you watched Talking Smack that airs on the WWE Network on Tuesday night, you know that AJ Styles was complaining to hosts Rennee Young and Shane McMahon about where he was located on the promotional poster for the Royal Rumble. It is expected that he will more than likely lose the belt prior to WrestleMania and become frustrated.
If that’s the case then it makes me wonder if John Cena will be the one that AJ Styles will drop the belt to at either the Royal Rumble or the Elimination Chamber. AJ Styles has held the belt since he defeated Dean Ambrose for the belt at Backlash back in September of 2016.
As a fan, this would be interesting to see play out. When I saw the poster for the Royal Rumble, I thought it was odd that the WWE champion was in the back of the poster and part-timers like Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, and Goldberg were in the front of the poster.
I also find it quite odd that WWE wouldn’t have AJ Styles be the Champion at least heading into WrestleMania. I would like to figure out now if it’s not Cena to dethrone the Phenomenal one, then who would it be. I can’t say I’m not surprised in all honesty that WWE would be going this direction of Styles and Shane McMahon after he announced that AJ’s belt will be defended at the Elimination Chamber.
WWE’s Road to WrestleMania officially begins this Sunday at the Royal Rumble in San Antonio, Texas.
This is just a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt.
