The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced they will honor retired Paul Posluszny on April 16. Per Jay Johnson of Jaguars Wire, Posluszny, 33, signed with the Jags during the 2011 offseason after previously playing for the Buffalo Bills and was the team’s second-longest tenured veteran behind Marcedes Lewis. During his tenure in Jacksonville, he achieved great heights as he was named to the Pro Bowl in 2013 and was a five-time team captain. He ended his career with an astounding total of 1,214 tackles, 16 sacks, 51 pass breakups and 15 interceptions.

Paul Posluszny, known as a leader on the field and in locker room, shocked many with the announcement he would no longer play football, for the Jaguars or in the NFL. He said he could not play at a level he wanted for himself. As he stated in his message to the Jacksonville Jaguars and the community here in Jacksonville.

“With much sadness but without regret, I realize that I am no longer able to adhere to the unwavering standard of excellence that professional football demands,” Posluszny wrote. “I say this with a heavy heart: I am retiring from the NFL. I love the game of football so much, and I know there is truly only one acceptable way to play. Knowing I can no longer compete at a level that I find acceptable, I have chosen to end my football career.

“This decision is mine alone, and although I know this will not bring me happiness, it is the right and honorable action to take at this time in my life.”

Tad Dickman, Director of Public Relations for the Jaguars tweeted that the team would hold a press conference regarding Posluszny’s retirement.

Paul Posluszny played a total of 11 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Penn State University, earned consensus All-American honors twice, and was chosen by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft. His only Pro Bowl season came in Jaguars’ uniform.

His only playoff appearance can this past season as the Jaguars won the AFC South division with a 10-6 record and reached the AFC Championship game where they lost to the New England Patriots.
