Just when many thought that former Atlanta Hawks swingman Josh Smith would team with childhood friend Dwight Howard in Houston, the Detroit Pistons offered a more lucrative detour up north.
According to media reports, Smith has agreed to a four-year, $56 million deal with the Detroit Pistons. Smith, 27, averaged career highs in points (17.5), assists (4.2) and rebounds (8.4) in 82 total games for the Hawks.
One of the most explosive and powerful dunkers—and a lefty—Smith gives the Pistons a wing player to take some of the scoring pressure off of Brandon Knight, Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe.
With Smith now in the fold, Joe Dumars and the Pistons can now turn their attention elsewhere and look to replace the recently departed Jose Calderon, who would sign with the Dallas Mavericks in free agency.
