After LeBron James decided to go back home went to Cleveland, social media exploded and ESPN made James’ second decision a bigger story in sports than the World Cup. Oh, and Chris Bosh resigned with the Miami Heat.
Bosh signed a five-year $118 million contract with the Heat becoming the second action in the disbanding of the Heatles. There were numerous reports claiming if James decided to leave South Beach, Bosh would join the Houston Rockets. The Rockets consistently stated that the only way Jeremy Lin would be dealt was if Bosh accepted its four-year $88 million offer.
However, Lin was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers yesterday afternoon before Bosh’s official agreement with Miami.
The nine-time All-Star averaged 16.2 points on 52 percent shooting last season and averages 19.2 points per game through his 11-year career. Head coach Erik Spoelstra said many times throughout the Big Three era that Bosh was the most important player. Now the world will get to see just how good the Dallas native is.
In his final five years in Toronto, he averaged over 22 points per game and with James’ departure and Dwyane Wade’s lack of ability—and possible departure to his native Chicago, per reports—Bosh will once again be the No.1 option. Pat Riley and Micky Arison voiced disappointment in James’ decision but also have a mentality on keeping the Heat as contenders.
The additions of Danny Granger, Shabazz Napier and Josh McRoberts can keep Miami as a playoff team in the weak Eastern Conference.
In nine games without James, Bosh averaged 23.2 points and shot 45.2 percent from three-point range. James’ return to Cleveland has dramatically changed the NBA landscape—especially in the East—but Miami plans on maintaining its recent success with Bosh now as the lead man.
