Thanks to signing Spencer Hawes to a four-year $23 million contract, the Los Angeles Clippers splash into 2014 free agency is off to a successful start. .

Hawes, who was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaged 13.2 points a game, 8.3 rebounds and three assists last season in 80 games. He is a great fit for the Clippers, as he’s a big man who can shoot and spread the floor, which makes the Clippers three-point specialists more dangerous. Their primary weapons are Jamal Crawford and J.J Redick.

He rebounds well and is a solid passer. Coach and President of Basketball Operations, Doc Rivers targeted Hawes early and really showed interest in the big man who shoots 41 percent from behind the arc. Hawes is the perfect backup—and complement—for both Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan in the low post, as he played a reasonable amount of minutes, which would allow Griffin and Jordan to rest.

The big man is a great addition and solid player for the Clippers, while he is not a big name in free agency, Hawes is a player that fits the Clippers system well and will provide Jordan or Griffin rest.
