ARLINGTON- There is generally accepted notion that the Browns made a decision to select a quarterback with the first overall pick. The conversation centers around USC quarterback Sam Darnold and Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen. Which quarterback will be selected first overall? Are the Browns finally ready to establish depth at this position with the right passers? If the Browns select Darnold, there is a possibility they will select USC running back Ronald Jones II.

Jones doesn’t possess the huge frame that Nick Chubb has. In fact, scouts are concerned his light frame will force a team to limit his carries according NFL.com’s scouting report. However, the Browns need depth at running back and not necessarily another starter. If Cleveland wants to have an extra running back to carry some of the load, this will ensure that Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson can get some rest at times. This will also give Darnold the chance to work with a teammate he is familiar with.

What Skills does Jones possess? Jones is incredibly agile which the game film proves. He can stop on a dime, make a precise cut, then beat an entire defense with his speed. He is lightning fast and a touchdown threat every time he runs the ball.  Scouts can cite their concerns about his light frame and durability but when he touches the ball, he can get more than five yards each carry. He doesn’t necessarily need a bulk of the carries to be effective. Even if Jones gets five carries a game, he can probably gain 55 to 70 yards. He is not necessarily going to be a starter due to concerns about his longevity but he can be a great second or third option. He may be a no brainer second round selection for the Browns.  Jones gained 1,550 yards, 19 touchdowns and averaged 5.9 yards per carry last season.
