What a difference a week makes. The 2023 Heisman race is now wide open and The Inscriber Magazine will take at the current rankings on who will win.

Michael Penix Jr who became the front-runner after Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans struggled against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This week against the Utah Utes he threw for 256 yards and carried the ball 10 times for 27 yards and a touchdown.

His touchdown run gave the Trojans the lead late in the fourth. Yet the Utes drove down the field for the game winning 38-yard field goal.

As for Penix Jr, he could not get anything going against the Arizona State Sun Devils. While he did throw for 275 yards, he also got intercepted twice and lost a fumble. A pick-six by Mishael Powell saved the Washington Huskies from a disastrous loss.

Bo Nix now becomes the leading candidate for the Heisman after the Oregon Ducks beat the Washington State Cougars 38-24.

The Ducks quarterback threw for 293 yards and two touchdowns and also added a rushing touchdown as well. Overall he has thrown for 2,089 yards, 19 touchdowns, and one interception. He also has two rushing touchdowns on the season.

Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel remains in the mix too. He threw for 253 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception while avoiding the upset by the University of Central Florida Knights.

In the SEC, Jayden Daniels from Louisiana State Tigers has been stellar this season. He has thrown for 2,573 yards, 25 touchdowns and three interceptions. Also, he has carried the ball 91 times for 521 yards and five touchdowns.

Beyond a weak out of conference schedule, LSU is currently 1-2 against ranked teams in 2023 and still have to play Alabama.
