INSCMagazine: Get Social!

If you’re going to spend a significant portion of your week doing something, then you may as well ensure that it’s worth it, and that doesn’t just mean financially, either. A study conducted a few years ago found that the majority of people not only believed that their job didn’t make any meaningful positive difference in the world, but that it might in fact make the world a worse place. Imagine that! While there are plenty of jobs that really aren’t going to nudge society in the right direction, there are some that will. Below, we take a look at a few long-term career options that’ll do good.

All Things Healthcare

There’s one group of professionals that is most definitely exempt from the “our jobs don’t make a difference in the world” camp, and that is everyone who works in the healthcare industry. If you’re a doctor or a nurse (or work in one of the many related jobs), then you’re doing one of the most valuable jobs for society. The long-term prospects of the healthcare industry are always good, since it’s one of those things that will always be in demand. It does require a lot of training, however, and they’re not roles for the squeamish.

The Next Generation

The future has always been — and always will be — with the next generation. If they’re well educated and open-minded, then that’s what the world will be like in the future. There’s the idea that humans are built in one way or another, but really, they’re just a product of what was fed into them when they were younger. If you like the idea of inspiring the next generation, then look at becoming a school teacher. Many districts are being squeezed, so the picture might not look so great right now, but the long-term prospects are rosy.

Looking After the Elderly

We’re entering into a phase of humanity that’s never happened before: for the first time ever, there will be more people in retirement age than children. As a result, there’s going to be a lot of job development in the personal care industry. Indeed, it’s this that is responsible for the projected senior care franchise profitability. If you’re a naturally caring person and have a touch of the entrepreneur about you, then this can afford a long-term career that both brings in an attractive income and helps people who are in need.

Solving Problems

You don’t need to look too far to see that there are some problems in the world. Just open up a newspaper. But let’s remember, problems are there to be solved! If you’re a problem solver and want to make a positive impact in the world, then you’ll find plenty of opportunity in the future, especially as the effects of climate change are felt. There will also be a requirement for people with skills to handle the complexities of an increasingly globalized world.

All of the above jobs will be in-demand in the decades to come, so take a look at starting your journey down one of these career paths today to be in a strong position to take advantage.
