Stuck in a job you hate? Tired of the nine-to-five and sick of the long commute to work? It might be time that you start looking for a new career. There are dozens of signs that suggest it might be the right time to move on. If you’re experiencing any of the feelings below, it’s time to start looking for a new industry or career. 

1. You Find it Hard to Get Motivated

When you lose the motivation to go to work, it’s a major sign that you need to move on. A lack of motivation will lead you to feel trapped and start to dread waking up in the morning. This situation is bad for both you and your employer. Because when you don’t have the enthusiasm to do a good job, you’re going to under perform. Not only does this make your life at work worse, it also has a negative impact on your company’s profits. 

2. You Don’t Feel Challenged

Some people are happy to pass through life doing the absolute minimum. Others need to have a life full of stimulation and embrace the challenges they face. You might find that one day for just feel bored at work. When this happens, like in the point above, you start to lose motivation. You’re then on a rocky road downwards and will never find satisfaction again at your job. 

3. You Want More in Life

Not everyone has job satisfaction. If you find that you fell into your current job or career, you’re more likely to be in a position that you want to escape from now. This might apply to school leavers who hopped from job to job. Now they find themselves in a comfortable job. But they don’t get the drive or stimulation. Or you might find that you’ve been stuck in the same position for years with little chance of rising any higher in your company. When you start to feel like this, get looking for something else.

4. Your Salary Isn’t Enough

You might work retail or metalsmithing or anything else. And you might actually enjoy your job. One day your circumstances might change abruptly. Perhaps a family member falls sick. Or you have a little baby on the way. Suddenly you might find yourself in a position when you aren’t earning enough anymore. Sure, you can ask your boss for a pay rise. But they probably won’t give it to you. Your change of circumstances might kick start you to knuckle down and look for more out of life.

5. Your Company is Going Through Big Changes

For better or worse, companies change their branding and focus regularly. You might be in a stable position right now. But you never know what’s around the corner. If your company gets taken over, listen to the rumors among colleagues. You might start to hear whispers of big changes. Not all changes are good. Because some involve laying off current staff. If you can stay on top of the situation, you can have an idea of what’s going to take place. And if you suspect that your job might be at risk, get looking for a new career as soon as possible. That way you won’t find yourself in a difficult situation later on. 

6. You Feel You Only Go to Work for Money

If money is the only reason why you get up in the morning to go to work, you’re not feeling fulfilled. This might be down to any number of reasons. Perhaps it’s because you feel trapped or the office politics are too much. Either way, over time, this leads to stress in your life. And too much stress can lead to health problems. Don’t wait too long, start looking for something better today. 

7. Your Job Affects Your Self-Esteem

If your job gives you low self-esteem, you’re never going to have a happy life in your current position. It’s time to leave. You may begin searching for San Francisco startup companies who will help you grow in your career while recognizing the little steps of progress you make. 

Time for a change?

There are several warning signs that suggest you need a new career. If you find yourself feeling demotivated, depressed and only going to work for the money, it’s time for something else. Or when you don’t feel challenged and you want more out of life. Sometimes situations change, and this might mean it’s time to look for something else too.
