On the same day in which Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez would be arrested for possession of a half a pound of marijuana, Josh Gordon and his past would finally catch up to him off the gridiron.

According local media outlet 19 Action News(WOIO), Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon has been suspended two games by the NFL for substance abuse due to codeine, which was used to treat a strep throat in February, in a released statement to the media.

Only in Cleveland, right?

Gordon, who had a history of drug abuse dating back to his days at Baylor, would fail three drug tests before transferring to Utah and declaring for the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft

Widely projected to become the deep threat No. 1 that they have so lacked in Cleveland, Gordon led the Browns in yards receiving (805), caught 50 passes and was tied for second with Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon for most touchdown passes with five among rookies.

With Gordon out for their first two games, this is a big blow not only for the Browns, but also for quarterback Brandon Weeden in playing in new offensive coordinator Norv Turner’s vertical passing attack.

With Joshua Cribbs now in Oakland and Mohammed Massaqoui in Jacksonville, the question that many Browns fans are now asking is that among the likes of David Nelson,Travis Benjamin, Josh Cooper and Jordan Norwood, who will emerge?
