All eyes were on Caitlin Clark tonight as she made her WNBA debut for the Indiana Fever. Yet it was the Connecticut Sun led by DeWanna Bonner, Tyasha Harris, DiJonai Carrington, and Alyssa Thomas that stole the show.
As for Clark she found Aliyah Boston for her first career assist yet then missed a layup, a floater, picked up a shooting foul, missed a three before picking up another shooting foul, and to cap that off then turned the basketball over.
So after going scoreless in the first quarter, things did not start of well either as on her first touch of the second quarter she turned the ball over. Clark then missed a three, had the ball stolen from her twice, before she picked up a steal and picked up her first career points of her WNBA career on a layup.
Clark did end up late in the second quarter making her first two career free throws and three. So at half time she was up to seven points.
In the second half though it was more of the same for Clark. Picked up two fouls, misses and turnovers. Overall she shot 5-15 from the field, went 4-11 from three, and 6-6 from the free throw line. She did end up with 20 points yet turned the ball over 10 times and finished with only three assists, and no rebounds.
Bonner was efficient for the Sun finishing 8-14 from the field, scoring 20 points and finished with six rebounds. Harris and Carring each scored 16, and Thomas finished with a triple-double 13 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds.
Besides Clark the Fever had only one other player in double figures and that was Nalyssa Smith with 13 points, she also grabbed nine rebounds.
Here are some of the reactions on social media about Clark struggling in her debut.
Caitlin Clark has struggled tonight with turnovers and fouls. But she’ll be completely fine, but this is what Diana Taurasi was talking about and people took it as “hate.” There will be a slight adjustment period but she’s going to find her groove soon. #WNBA
