It is a wonderful time to be a fan of comic book films. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in full swing as they march towards Avengers: Infinity War. The DCEU is coming off the high that is Wonder Woman as they lead into Justice League later this year. Deadpool 2 has officially begun filming for FOX, with another X-Men film also in the works.
But soon we will be introduced to a new universe. That would be the Spidey-verse via Sony. Now, there has been confusion in terms of whether or not these films will be a part of the MCU or not. But one way or the other, we know we are getting a Venom film in 2018. The title character will be played by none other than Tom Hardy.
Now we have gotten word on who will be the film’s main villain. That character is one that fans have been clamoring to see square off with Venom for years now. His name is Cletus Kasady, or as many will know him, Carnage!
So that immediately begs the question, who should play Carnage? Well, it just so happens that this writer has an actor in mind. And said actor has shown his interest in the role over on Twitter, making the possibility of it becoming a reality feel like a better possibility. That actor’s name, Cameron Monaghan.
For those of you who have never seen Monaghan in action, he is one of the greatest actors on television today in my eyes. Between his roles of Ian Gallagher on Shameless and Jerome on Gotham, Monaghan has shown wonderful range.
Over on Shameless, Ian is a bipolar and gay character. As a result, his emotions can vary greatly from episode to episode. Sometimes, he is needed to show support to his fellow family members. Other times, he is the one in need of a pick me up. Ian is very much a character fans feel for.
Meanwhile, on Gotham, Jerome is a complete psychopath. He is a cold-blooded murderer who only wants one thing: to cause pain to others. He is as sadistic as they come. Oh, one more thing. He is the show’s version of the Joker.
So this leads us back to Kasady. Kasady is a murderer himself. A murderer who becomes the villain Carnage after his body is merged with an alien symbiote. In other words, he is a very complex character. So an actor with tremendous range is certainly needed. But in addition, one that can portray a convincing badass psycho. I would certainly say Monaghan fits that bill.
Then we factor in Cameron’s Twitter account. Just yesterday, Monaghan showed his interest in the role It began with the actor retweeting the below Tweet.

He then followed that up by responding to a fan who said he would be great for the role. He sent out a picture of a Carnage action figure, stating he had the toy when he was younger and it would be a dream come true to play the character. So it certainly sounds like he would be on board.
So, now we just need Sony to reach out to the young upcoming actor. Pairing him against Hardy would simply make for a tremendous film. Come on Sony, make this one happen!
