The Cleveland Browns pass defense will be tested against the highly touted, untested rookie quarterback Carson Wentz. The Browns chose to trade down rather than take the prodigal rookie with the second overall pick.

The Browns defense will be tasked with giving Wentz a proper introduction to the NFL. Wentz did not take many snaps after suffering a rib injury during the preseason. Cleveland’s defensive coordinator Ray Horton will likely call a lot of blitzes, utilizing the pass rushing abilities of rookies Emmanual Ogbah and Carl Nassib.

Wentz will try to throw the ball the emerging receiver Jordan Matthews and tight end, Zach Ertz. However, the Browns pass defense will make this a daunting task as Ray Horton will call a lot of zone blitzes. The one concern for the Browns is their lackluster run defense.

Eagles running back Ryan Matthews will gash this run defense until it slows him down.

Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III faces the challenges of starting for his second team, learning the new playbook and throwing against a solid defense lead by Fletcher Cox.

Prediction: Wentz will struggle to pass the ball due to his limited snaps. He will throw two interceptions. Ogbah will sack Wentz twice. Nassib will record one sack.

The Eagles will be shut down by the Browns in the first half before turning things around in the second half.

Browns rookie receiver Corey Coleman will have a great start to his career with six receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown. Browns tight end Gary Barnidge will come up with a key late touchdown.

Normally, this would be an easy pick, but Wentz will not come up with enough big plays. The Eagles trade of Sam Bradford will come back to haunt them.
