Derrick Rose is heading into the 2017-18 NBA season looking to resurrect his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He has looked good in training camp and is expected to have a large role with his new team.

Injuries have been the story of Rose’s career. At one point with the Chicago Bulls, Rose was an MVP. He took the NBA by storm and was one of the top superstars in the league.

Unfortunately, a torn ACL put him out and since then he has gone through multiple knee injuries that has ended his season early on many occasions. Since his torn ACL, Rose has been playing “revenge basketball” and it has not helped him get back on track. Rose has made it clear that he plans to stop playing that brand of basketball and focus on embracing his new role with the Cavaliers.

Last season with the New York Knicks, Rose showed flashes of his old self. He ended up averaging 18.0 points per game to go along with 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. Rose shot 47.1 percent from the floor, but struggled mightily from beyond the arc at just 21.7 percent.

Needless to say, it will be intriguing to see how Rose plays with the Cavaliers. LeBron James couldn’t be more excited to have him on board and Rose could start for a good part of the season due to Isaiah Thomas’ hip issues.

All of that being said, what three goals should be set for Rose heading into the 2017-18 season?

Stay Healthy Throughout the Entire Season

Obviously, staying healthy is the biggest goal for Rose. He has been unable to play a full season since the 2010-11 season. Cleveland needs Rose healthy this season in order to play to their full potential.

Average 15 Points Per Game

Cleveland needed more supporting pieces alongside James last season and Rose will be one of them. Chipping in at least 15 points per game would be huge for the role that he will have. Rose won’t be asked to score much more than that, but a consistent 15 per game will make the Cavaliers’ offense much more dangerous.

Shoot 34 Percent From Three

Playing with LeBron is easy, but perimeter shooting is a major key for success. Rose has struggled from behind the arc, but shooting 34 percent from three would be perfect. Simply being able to be a threat and help stretch the floor is important for Rose this season.
