Could University of Texas football icon Mack Brown be on his way out?

According to an ESPN report, the answer to that question looks like it could be a “yes.” Despite an excellent career at Texas — which includes a 158-47 record with one national championship — a four-season stretch that has an uncharacteristic 30-20 mark attached to it may lead to the end of the Brown era at Texas.

As for who could be his replacement, that man could be Alabama coach Nick Saban. The same Nick Saban whose glowing resume as the Crimson Tide head coach has garnered comparisons to Alabama legend Bear Bryant.

Saban’s agent recently said that Texas is the “only” school his client would consider leaving Tuscaloosa for, and Saban may head to the Crimson Tide soon.

Sports director of OKC-KWTV Dean Blevins said on Twitter today that Saban has been offered a 10-year, $100 million contract in addition to one percent of the Longhorn Network. If Blevins tweet proves to be true, that could be an offer that would be to good for the longtime coach to refuse.

Of course, the status of Brown with the Longhorns has been an ever-changing subject for most of the day with Brown issuing denials that he will resign, however Texas’ season and the reports listed above may be pointing to the opposite.

If Saban were to come to Austin, it would be the biggest coaching acquisition in years.

It will be interesting to follow how this situation shakes out over the coming days and/or weeks, although if Saban ultimately becomes the next Longhorn head coach, he would be an excellent replacement for Brown.
