The off-season has not been kind to the Dallas Cowboys. With the suspension of Ezekiel Elliott looming and appeals and more court stuff, it makes for a huge distraction for the entire organization.

Dallas is no stranger to the off-season distractions, however. When you are “Americas” team, the media knows that the Dallas Cowboys sell. So, if a player sneezes into their sleeve as opposed to a napkin the media will be all over that.

Along with the media distractions, the Cowboys have lost quite a few players to other squads. Some of these players, like Brandon Carr won’t be felt as badly as others. Most of the players let go were players that had no chance to start, unless an injury happened, or they could be replaced by younger, rising stars who fit the system better than the ones who they let walk.

Now for the good news, it seems that Dallas may have a good one-two punch at quarterback. With Cooper Rush as the backup to Prescott, the dreaded Kellan Moore experiment is over.

For the first time, in a long time, Cowboys fans are feeling confident about the quarterback position.

Now for the bad news, the defense, appears to be the hold your breath and keep them off the field as much as possible type of defense. It’s looking like the Dallas offense will have to outscore opponents once again to have a chance to be the first NFC East team to win back to back NFC East Champ titles since Philadelphia did it in 2012-2013.

So, as we roll into a brand-new NFL season, looking strictly at the Cowboys, if their sophomore players do not have a sophomore slump, Todd Archer’s prediction of 9-7 is going to be accurate. I, however, will go with a 12-4 record as the Cowboys have shown in the last few years, they have a big heart and a hunger that has been missing.

Sometimes, that is all it takes to win in the NFL.
