Relationship experts believe that there are several warning signs that can signal whether a couple will move to greater heights or not. Some reasons can arise from one or both partners who have just started grooving. For instance, a woman may allege that her partners snoring behaviors cannot be withstood and a man may blame his partner on poor organizational skills at home. Such little disputes are common in nearly every relationship, though they can’t signal whether you will bond or not.

However, there are certain warning signs that can lead to bigger problems and relationship breakage. Here are seven red flags to note indicating your relationship won’t work:

1.) Contempt and Criticism: Rather than kindly requesting for something with courtesy, your partner uses criticism directly addressing you instead of what they want. For instance, instead of “Please give me some water” it sounds like, “Aren’t you in sober mind to see that I’m eating and I’m thirsty?” Any question that directly attacks the other person character when repeated on a regular basis is a sign that the relationship isn’t meant to last. When it comes to contempt, one partner feels on top of the other.

If you criticized your partner behavior at some point, make several endearing comments to ensure that everything goes on well.

2.) Emotions Rarely Conveyed: There is nothing wrong of expressing both negative and positive emotions to your partner.

However, Carole Lieberman, couple therapist who’s based in Beverly Hills warns against turning cold towards each other in case of some misunderstandings that draws negative emotions. For example, don’t go telling your partner why you love them, how you live together and when you will leave them after wrangling.

It’s clear indication that you have gone beyond where you have been hurt and the feelings you had for them have been eroded.

Lieberman recommends that it’s good for a couple to express their emotions than remain numb. She argues that when a couple doesn’t express their emotions, it is an indication their love and relationship won’t last unless changes are made.

3.) Trust is Lost: One of the major reasons why couples end up breaking up is once a partner realizes that the other one has cheated. And this extends beyond bed matters. According to Tina B. Tessina, a psychotherapist, deceit in relationship breaks the trust and in some cases the breach cannot be rectified. If a couple wants it fixed, the partner who broke the trust must admit and accept to be accountable. They should open up and tell every truth, and load more effort to rebuild the trust, until the relationship is healed.

Most cheating partners hardly agree after cheating and thus their relationship end up crushing.

4.) Constant Arguments and Complaints: If you are always complaining to your partner about how your in-laws are horrible or constantly arguing about how you are a poor parent, your relationship could be headed in the wrong direction.

The same applies if you are always in wrangles or engaging in regular fights where violence is involved. Tessina recommends that such a couple should live separately for some time to give each other a healthy space. This time allows the relationship to heal and the couple eventually reconcile if they were in deed meant to be.

However, constant complaints and arguments should stop if the relationship is to last.

5.) No Empathy: There are couples who after living together for quite sometime find no feelings for each other.

This is a clear indication that their relationship has reached a critical mass. Irrespective of whether they are living together or not, they feel uncared for and unloved because the pains and hurting they underwent fail to be recognized. Lieberman notes that such a couple develops cruelty towards each other because of their bad feelings. She recommends that regardless of the fights and awful arguments you have faced in the past, you should not reach a point of shutting off.

Instead, you should express affection and care towards each other at this critical moment if your relationship should last.

6.) No Commitment to Improve Your Bond: If your relationship has faced a major blow, the first step you should take is to ask your partner whether they want it to last. This will help bring out the truth—whereby the other person may want to call it quits but lacks the courage to tell you.

They could not have the courage to tell you that they are no longer interested because they are afraid to hurt your feelings. Don’t hesitate to ask the status of your relationships so that you can plan your future.

7.) Risky Lifestyle Behaviors: A couple that lasts longer in a relationship usually tends to live a healthy lifestyle. However, your partner may start engaging in risky habits such as excessive alcoholism or reporting home in the wee hours of the morning as a sign that they are not happy in the relationship. This can go to some extremes where your partner wants you to acknowledge their cheating behaviors.

It’s the right time you should start packing if they are not ready to address the afflicting issues.

Conclusion: While there are many precursors of a relationship breakup, the above 7 should give you an insight about what signs should keenly watch out for. The good news is that you can resolve your indifference’s if you spot these breakup signs at an early age.
