In a move that was not much of a surprise, the Dallas Cowboys parted ways with wide receiver Dez Bryant on Friday.

Once considered one of the elite playmakers in the NFL, the former three-time Pro Bowl and NFL All-Pro caught 69 passes for 838 yards and six touchdowns in 2017. At 29, the former Galveston County, Texas native and Lufkin (TX) standout is set to enter the latter part of his career.

After refusing to reportedly take a pay cut, as he was due to count toward the Cowboys salary cap with a hit of $16.5 million, after signing a five-year, $70 million contract extension back in 2015. Since then, Bryant has averaged 678.3 receiving yards from 2015-17, after eclipsing 1,000 receiving yards from 2012-14 and averaging 1,311 from 2012-14.

Was it a case of him being more suited to working with Tony Romo as opposed to Dak Prescott? Number don’t lie and if you look close at Bryant’s targets under Romo from 2010-15 (114.1) as opposed to Prescott in 2016-17 (115), and there isn’t much separation, but one could make the case that Prescott didn’t seem to favor Bryant as much as Romo did?

Now a free agent, who is reportedly considering staying in the NFC East—with all three teams already declining—here are my three reasons why Dez should #ThrowUpTheX in #TheLand

Cleveland has the cap space to sign him to a deal he wants: Of all of the teams in free agency remaining, the Browns have the most cap space remaining at 67.7 million, per Spotrac.com. Pending the Jarvis Landry five-year, $75 million extension, Cleveland has plenty of cap to meet and match Bryant’s salary cap demands.

The Browns need a legit No.2 across from Josh Gordon: With Gordon back in the fold, Cleveland as a glarining need for a legit playmaker across from him to help really open up Cleveland’s revamped new offense. Imagine a 2018 Browns offense featuring Dez, Gordon, Landry at WR, David Njoku at TE, Tyrod Taylor at QB and a backfield of Saquon Barkley*, Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson. Yeah…sign me up!

Editor’s Note: Once can only hope and dream, right?!?

They are one piece away from possible respectability: While the additions of Taylor, Landry and Hyde on offense are nothing short of spectacular, Cleveland still lacks that ONE big name and playmaker that can take the top of and offense and take the browns to the next level.

Landry is a reception machine out of the slot and Gordon—when he’s clean, is one of the most dangerous deep threats in the NFL, now just imagine adding Dez to that offense? Cleveland would go from a bottom-feeder to one of the most top ten offenses overnight.
