According to media reports, John Nash, the mathematician who inspired the 2001 Academy Award-winning movie “A Beautiful Mind” died early Sunday morning in a taxi crash on the New Jersey Turnpike, along with his wife, Alicia.

Nash, 86, and his wife Alicia Nash, 82 lived in Princeton Junction, were traveling southbound in the left lane on the New Jersey Turnpike, when the drive of a Ford crown Victoria lost control, crashing into the guard rail, causing the Nashes to be ejected from the car, according to State Police Sgt. Gregory Williams to NJ.com

A Nobel Peace prize winner for Economics in 1994, Nash became know for his work in game theory an his own struggle in paranoid schizophrenia, famously depicted in the 2001 film, “A Beautiful Mind” starring Russell Crowe.

Upon hearing the news, Crowe was “stunned” upon hearing the news via Twitter.
