For a player to qualify for this article, they’ll need to be available in at least 50% of Yahoo! fantasy baseball leagues. For deep league players, one of these second basemen sits on the wire in 90% of fantasy baseball leagues.

Hernan Perez, Milwaukee (40% owned)
Through 27 games this season, Perez has four homers, two stolen bases, and an 11 R/13 RBI output. Last season, Perez had an outside shot at 20/40 last season if he had played 162 games, but managed 13 dingers and 34 bag swipes in just 123 games. He did it with a solid average and only the anemic 2016 Milwaukee offense kept down his R & RBI. Fast forward to the suddenly incredible 2017 Brewers, and his runs and RBI should fly up into respectability. His .273 BABIP means his average should go up, as well.
Ryan Schimpf, San Diego (23% owned)
Schimpf had preseason buzz as a hot sleeper candidate, but he failed to live up to expectations early. He had a rough go of it to start the season, but has turned it on lately. He leads second basemen in home runs over the last two weeks, and he is the #6 ranked second baseman in that span. That’s not super fluky, either. He’s absolutely selling out for fly balls, hitting a whopping 69.5% of his balls in the air. His 22% HR/FB rate is off the charts, but even if that regresses, that insane fly ball rate will sustain power production.
Kolten Wong, St. Louis (10% owned)
Remember Kolten Wong? Well, he’s back (kind of). He still has second base eligibility, but he’s filling in in the outfield with Dexter Fowler and Stephen Piscotty injured. He was once a decent speed-power option a few years ago. Now he’s entering his prime and mad the Cardinals sent him down to the minors, and that means he’s taking advantage of his opportunity. There’s no telling how long it’ll last, but his .300 potential and well-rounded production will suit you in deeper leagues for the time being.
